A few years ago, my partner was studying to become a music teacher in secondary schools. Part of this experience involved extensive listening to jazz. For quite some time I became exposed to this music as it played out quietly and sometimes not so quietly, in the house. Some of this music I enjoyed a great deal and nearly all of it was unfamiliar.
distant blue is a piece of art music that is tinctured by jazz colours, gestures and harmonies; a consequence and sublimation of the many months of being
exposed to and enjoying jazz.
